DID YOU EVER DO SOMETHING that embarrassed you so much you got all red-faced and could hardly speak? Maybe you drank some soda and let out a big burp in front of the cutest boy in the school. Well, relax! Everyone has been there. It doesn’t feel good, but it does do one good thing: it makes you a bit more humble.

Humility brings a little checks-and-balances system into that troublemaker called the ego. Humility reminds you that you’re not perfect and that everyone (including you) makes mistakes. Doing something embarrassing may give you a red face, but contrary to how it feels, you won’t die!

Being humble before God lets him know that you recognize your limitations. You realize that you are only the clay, and he is indeed the Potter. If he formed you, if he created you for a particular purpose (and he did), then it’s really uncool for you to put yourself on a pedestal. You didn’t create anything that he didn’t allow you to create.

Today, as you go about your schoolwork, practice for the gymnastics meet, or catch some downtime with your friends, remember that everything you have and all you are exist because of one thing: God loved you so much he gave you the world. Take a little time to say a humble thank-you today.
